The Crater Lake Pin

The Crater Lake Pin

You all know I've got a bit of a thing for the National Parks. I think part of it comes from growing up in Virginia just a couple of hours away from Shenandoah National Park. So, when Lisa from Indie Untangled approached me to design a pin for their National Parks New Year box, my answer was, of course, a resounding yes.

Now that the countdown to the new year is over, I'm finally able to share some pictures of the pin! My inspiration came from this gorgeous photo of Crate Lake National Park by Steve Schwindt.

And here's the pin!

I'd had the idea to insert a scene into a skein of yarn for awhile, and this seemed like the perfect opportunity to bring that idea to life!

I was worried that some of the detailed areas wouldn't come out, but they came out beautifully. I love the tiny details on the pine trees.

Because I wanted to make sure I could fit the entire scene in the skein of yarn, I designed this pin slightly larger than I usually do. At 1.5 inches tall, it has two backers to keep it secure.

And now, here's the good news: I ordered some extras! So, even if you weren't able to participate in the New Year's box, you can still give your project bag a little face lift for the new year. Click here to order your own Crater Lake Pin!
